Classes & Benefits:

 

The benefits include strengthening the core (the bodies stabilizer), bone and muscle

structure in a functional and appropriately challenging way. Fine motor skills like

writing, drawing and colouring in are dependent on a strong core and shoulder girdle

stability. The exercises that we teach during a Mini-Mints lesson targets the core

through strengthening and co-ordinated movements.

 

Long term benefits include improving the child's postural endurance making it easier

to focus on other mental activities without the stress of body fatigue. When a child is

confident in their abilities it promotes a healthy self esteem. Exercise increases ones

energy levels, promotes a better memory, and simply a good feeling about themselves.

 

Mini-Mints (3-6): 

 

The Mini-Mints program is a fusion of our Mint-Fit (functional exercises), Pilates and Yoga program. We work with natural movement that promotes strength, balance, ball skills, co-ordination, flexibility, stamina, teamwork and FUN! We teach them teamwork and to bend, balance,twist, duck,jump,throw,stretch,bounce,pull,push,slide,roll…you name it, we've tried it! We do this through a variety of different ways. We build obstacle courses, we plan partner exercises,we work together as a big group and encourage basic stretches and balances by themselves on their own mats. 

 

The toddler and pre-school sessions are between 20-30minutes. We aim to keep the kids mentally and physically challenged as well as intrigued and motivated. 

 

We try to create an environment where children can learn about and strengthen their bodies in a non-competitive way. From a young age children  are required to sit for longer periods of time during classes at pre-school,  Sunday school, driving to and from school, offices,possibly homework and study time, it is of utmost importance to encourage some light stretching especially during growth spurts. We teach effective stretch techniques and mobilizing exercises, which they will be able to apply when experiencing any discomfort and or stiffness. They tend to practice the more challenging “poses” in their own time therefor creating a bit of discipline outside of their school-like environment and Mini-Mints environment. 

 

The sessions are appropriate for a variety of different types of personalities and we take a special interest in helping little ones find a passion for the joy of movement. 

 

Mini-Mints (7-10):

 

The children in our older age group (ages 7-10) perform more exercises

by themselves but partner work is still encouraged.  In these sessions,

we focus on building on the foundation phase, by increasing the

amount of repetitions, speed and difficulty of the exercises. We aim to

include cardiovascular, strength and stability, balance and flexibility

exercises in every class.

We like to think of our sessions as a one stop full body service. The 7-10year old sessions last between  30-45minutes. We aim to keep the kids mentally and physically challenged as well as intrigued and motivated.
